We are pleased to announce that this year's Your Green Future event will be held on Tuesday the 25th and Wednesday 26th September at the Cefn Lea Conference and Holiday Park near Newtown. If you are a school interested in bringing a group of pupils or a business wanting to find out how your organisation can take part, please contact Mark Stead at marks(at)severnwye.org.uk.
Your Green Future events form a key part of the Our Future's People project, extending students' awareness of the employment opportunities within the local green economy, making links between STEM and environmental issues, and providing an opportunity for students to work directly with local businesses. These events are open to all schools in Powys FREE OF CHARGE, whether they are part of the Our Future's People programme or not.
Each event brings together over 250 secondary school students and 50 business professionals who work together in a series of interactive workshops, using STEM knowledge and skills in developing practical solutions to a range of sustainability-related issues. Students also attend a career pathways exhibition where they interact with employers and education providers to explore the diverse range of employment opportunities available within the 'green economy' locally and the training paths available to support them on this journey.
The 2017 event was held at the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells on the 7th and 8th November and was attended by 272 students from 7 schools along with 86 business professionals representing 22 local organisations. The feedback we received has been overwhelmingly positive with 100% of teachers indicating that they enjoyed the event and would like to attend another event in the future. To see more of the excellent feedback received, please view the YGF Powys 2017 Evaluation Brochure (web link to evaluation brochure)
